River Dolphin: the illegal killing of this species occurs both poaching linked to the need of the impoverished human populations living along these rivers or unintentional capture through non-selective fishing gear. Other threat factors are represented by maritime and river traffic noise and over-exploitation of prey, mainly due to the widespread use of non-selective fishing gear. On the river Ganges, although declining, are still exercised rights to harvest river dolphins, they are captured to produce oil dolphin and parts of the body are used when fishing for catfish.
